Te Quiero Barcelona........Part I

...........and we're back. After our 1st Year Wedding Anniversary Getaway of 5 days 4 nights in Barcelona, we finally arrived in Vevey at 8.30pm last night. Sighhhhhh......don't you just hate crashing back down to reality after an awesome holiday? (tho' Mi Amor says technically I am still on holiday :P). Already I miss the food, hearing people speak in Spanish and being able to understand some of what they're saying (and even if you don't, most of them can speak/understand English, unlike here in Vevey) and the beautiful architecture :< . The only thing I don't miss is the cold (we have enough of that here in Vevey).

So a recap of some of the highlights (to me everything was a highlight) of our trip for those of you who have not been following Mi Amor's Barcelona album update on FB (I swear he was the one who religiously uploaded the pics at the end of every day while I was snoozing away...that's how excited he was about the trip!). Warning : Pic heavy post

Dia uno

After checking in, we grabbed some lunch (seafood paella) at a nearby cafe before proceeding to walk along the famous La Rambla street. Stopped by the Mercat de la Boqueria (aka Mercat de Sant Josep) to salivate over the range of fresh fruit, fruit juices and homemade chocolates sold there (among other things). Visited some cathedral in the Gothic Quarter. Passed by/ took pictures in front of the History Museum. Stopped for churros and hot chocolate at a highly recommended cafe. Visited the Placa Reial square.

I can imagine how pretty the place must be in spring/autumn with all the leaves on the trees
Paella marinara.....muy delicioso!
Gran Teatre Del Liceu, Barcelona's grand opera house situated along La Rambla
To market to market to buy.....
....las frutas...
......y chocolates!
Freakin' Fresh Mango Kiwi juice!
One of the many cathedrals in Barcelona
Inside the cathedral
The antique market along the street outside the cathedral

On the steps of the Museu D'Historia De La Ciutat (A museum on the history of Barcelona from the Roman times through the birth of the Gothic era)
Churros con chocolate.......muy bueno!
The fountain in the middle of the Placa Reial square. There are 2 lamposts next to the fountain which are Gaudi's first known works.
The said lampost....no biggie if you ask me (fine, I'll cut him some slack since it was his first piece of work)

Dia dos

The first half of the day was dedicated especially to Mi Amor as he wanted so much to visit Barcelona FC's stadium (yupp, that's another stadium visited that he can check off his list). So we made our way to Camp Nou and spent 3 1/2 hours at the place (stadium +museum tour). The museum was impressive and very detailed (though I finished my tour of the museum within less than half an hour :P). It was very interactive as it had a lot of touch screen panels showing the history and videos of important moments of the club. Most people would select certain moments on the panel and read them but NoOoOOOOOooo, not Mi Amor! He actually read EVERY FREAKING ONE! The only thing important and interesting that I learnt from the museum is that their manager, Josep Guardiola is kinda cute :D
At least I found the tour of the stadium more interesting (got to see the hot tub in the players changing room..too bad there were not players in it....heh)
By the time we left the place, it was already 4pm. Went back to the main city centre and walked about some more, before stopping for dinner at a really nice restaurant which we stumbled upon in one of the alleys (we went in because we saw that there were lots of recommendation stickers on the restaurant door).

Camp Nou, Barcelona FC's stadium with a capacity of 100,000 is the 3rd largest stadium in the world

Impressive trophy collection. It starts from one end of the museum all the way till the other end (and there's more on the other side!)

So apparently these are the 6 important trophies they won last year

That's Mi Amor reading the touch screen panel. Can you believe that he read EVERYTHING on that panel? ( it starts from 1899 all the way up to 2010....that's 111 years of history for God's sake!)

I got bored and started randomly touching things
Mes Que Un Club.....more than a club (Yeah, it's an obsession for some! :P)
Palau De La Musica Catalana (concert hall). Tickets for their Flamenco singing concert was almost sold out that night.

Casa Culleretes, where we had dinner. This 225 year old restaurant is the oldest in Catalunya and 2nd oldest in Spain

View from our table at the cosy corner of the room

Grilled seafood can't get any better than this!
